Grace (facebook series)
Been reading the past couple of days Jay Bakker's memoir, Son of a Preacher Man. This book recounts his parent's life (Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker) and his use of drugs and alcohol to medicate his deep pain and not so private hell. For those who remember the 80's church wars, this book is quite a history lesson. For those who have been trashed and burned by religion and religious fundamentalism and DO NOT want to seek refuge in the church ever again, this is a must read (but only do it sitting down). Grace, writes Bakker, is an unearned gift. If one is obsessed with works-you simply reflect the culture around you rather than radiate the greater work of God inside you. God loves each of us not for what we do for him but simply, God loves us for who we are. What a gift! All we need to do is receive the gift of God's love and open it. God bless you today, dear friend.
