Bill was running late this morning, but we still had some of our daily 'read and chat' time. John Eldredge's latest book, Walking With God, fired our jets again. He was talking about sometimes not really wanting to pray about something, because if he hears back from God, then he's left with the choice of obeying that which he hears, even the seemingly small things in the dailies. The little bothers (opportunities). TO BE (faithful) OR NOT TO BE. Sure, we'll shine in the big moments, but Jesus told us to be faithful in the little things. And then we remembered the faucet.
. . . I patted his shiny chrome handle. "You silly water faucet. You're right. I have passed by you a dozen times today and you haven't done anything for me. You haven't turned on once today--that's my business. If I had wanted to wash my hands or take a drink, I would have turned you on. I don't want you turning yourself on--all you will do is waste water and make a mess." I looked faucet straight in the nozzle and said, "Listen to me. Every time I walked by today, I knew you were here. I knew that if I wanted to use you, all I had to do was touch you and you would respond. I don't measure your faithfulness by how much water you dispense in a day. I judge you by your availability. You have been faithful to me today, faucet, because you have been available to me. I'm proud of you."It's kind of a different picture when we think of streams of living water flowing through us. God does not judge us by the achievements of our hands, but by the purity of our hearts, our ambitions and motives, and just being His.
"You did well in that it was in your heart." II Chronicles 6:8
