WINGS, WINgs, winGS, WINGS
When I was a young girl
I could do two things, very well;
Daydreaming and dream-flying.
A college professor broke me of the first,
the second just some how faded away.
I loved flying in my dreams;
It was so easy, you only lifted your head
in the direction to go and . . . flew
(and without wings).
I don't know why I didn't have wings because I think they are one of the most beautiful things God ever created. It doesn't matter if it's the wings of a bird, an angel, a butterfly or dragonfly, or even a fairy, I am fascinated and delighted with anything that has wings (except Paul McCartney). To happen upon a feather donated from the sky is as wonderful as treasure, something so special you almost feel guilty keeping it for yourself.
But wings are now also sacred and I'll tell you why.
God soars on the wings of the wind.
On the wings of dawn Jesus comes with healing.
We are called to sing under His wings.
Wings overshadow the seat of mercy.
Under His wings we find refuge, shelter, peace and a hiding place.
I need to add "wings" to my interests on my facebook. Some of you know I have thunder and lightning on that list, and now I realize there is a connection. The Word says that God's wings SOUND like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. Ezekiel says that the sound of wings is like the roar of rushing waters, like the VOICE OF THE ALMIGHTY, like the tumult of an army, and can be heard from far away. I always imagined wings as SILENT. Our God may be thundering one moment and be but a breath the next.
All to say,
God gifts us with dreams
and flight, both which speak to me
of refreshment (perhaps even in our windstorms).
He promises to renew our strength like that of the eagles.
Fly away and be at rest.
Pick up that next feather.
P.S. I recently flew in a dream.

I agree with you (SHOCKING!) about the importance of wings. I think in the modern tech-savvy and cynical world the image of flight brought about by nothing more than the creation of a high power is an extremely important one. I'm happy you finally had another flying dream.
Sorry I missed your call.

I think we kinda think alike. :D
Recently I have had a sort of fascination with the wings of God... by fascination I mean that I have been experiencing them in visions while I pray. A couple of nights ago I was spending time with God and in this vision an eagle flew to me with a green gemstone in his beak and came and hovered over me and fed me the gem... it wasn't as disgusting as it sounds... but all the while I could literally feel the wind from his wings... and it was amazing.
Thats what this post made me think of.
Have a GREAT weekend!

love it!!!! I think its so cool how we get fascinated by certain things in nature and then once we look deeper- we can make crazy connections... often to our callings. For example a friend of mine often dreams about these beautiful and often a little crazy flowers- (one time the flowers went off like fireworks...) a huge part of her calling is to girls- To show them the boldness and the beauty they have. For me, I love love love trees. (especially huge, leafy ones that sit in the midst of fields by themselves)For one thing, I know I am called to spiritual renewal and tapping into the roots of places...especially Cleveland. Not sure if you have thought of it this way before, but either way, I am interested to know- How do wings, thunder and lightning and what God shows you about them line up with your calling?
Amanda, I loved your question so much that I pondered on it all day. Meditations led me through Psalm 104 and parts of Daniel and Isaiah. . . . and then the early morning thunder storm that continues even as I write. I realized I was laying in bed during the brightest flashes and loudest peals and was just smiling. It's my Abba up to something. His voice thunders, he sends forth his arrows to rout enemies, and then blesses with healing rain. I desire to be a voice for Him, to destroy the works of Satan and be a vessel of healing for others. So yes, wings, thunder and lightning are my calling. Thank you.
I, Kris, wrote to comment on Amanda's question . . . but because we are still learning to blog, it carried Bill's name and 8X10 glossy. Oh well, living and learning.
